Animal and Plant Cell Structure and Function

Animal and Plant Cell Structure and Function
  • Nucleus
The control center - directs all of the cell's activities including reproduction
  • Cell membrane
Protects the cell and regulates what substances enter and leave the cell
  • Cell wall
A stiff outer covering that protects the cell - found only in plant cells.
  • Cloroplast
Captures energy from sunlight and uses it to produce food for the cell.
  • Ribosomes
Works as a factory to produce proteins.
  • Mitochondria
    Produces the cell's energy.
  • Cytoplasm
The gel-like fluid in which many organelles are found.
  • Vacuole
Stores food, water, waste, and other materials.
  • Golgi body
Receives material from the E.R. and sends them to other parts of the cell and releases materials outside the cell.
  • Endoplasmic Reticulum
Carries materials from one part of the cell to another.
